Garden to Garden walk
A walk from Dent de Lion, Garlinge, to the Sunken Garden, Westbrook for "Sunken Ecologies", curated by Anna Colin for Margate Now 2021.
The walk began at Dent de Lion and took in the last surviving ancient orchard in Thanet and the medieval Dent de Lion gatehouse, linking it with other locally vanished gardens and changed habitats. This included the Hussar pub (formerly a vinerie and pleasure garden); the location of a Bronze Age hoard found at Motherwicks (now Mutrix Road); and the railway embankment which used the earth excavated when the Sunken Garden was dug by 13 men in 1931.
With thanks to Anna Colin for the photographs.
