The Hortorium
Work commissioned for "Sunken Ecologies" curated by Anna Colin for Margate Now 2021. The work presented was made in response to the Sunken Garden at Westgate and consists of ten aprons dyed and hung with plant fetishes and ceramic artefacts using material from the garden. The plants used in dyeing were oak gall, blackberry, nettle, sea buckthorn, pine, ceanothus, rose hip, sunflower, Jerusalem sage and rosemary. Four tables, also painted with plant derived colour, showed ongoing research into the archaeology of the site.
The work was shown at The Nayland Rock Hotel 25 September-10 October, along with films "The green, the flow, the path of the game" by Adam Chodzko and "An Enclosed Garden" by Holly Slingsby.
