The Search for Shuart is an on-going body of work evolving from my commission for Crate's "Ways of Making", where I led a walk with twenty participants from St Nicholas at Wade to Reculver in March 2020, looking for the lost medieval village of Shuart, and recounting narratives from my research about the former Wantsum Channel and sites connected with it. In the medieval period Shuart had a church, All Saints, which had disappeared completely by the eighteenth century. Now two farmhouses and some barns are all that remain of Shuart.
The clay artefacts made in response to this walk are inspired by a late Bronze Age hoard found on the Shuart site.
