Die Suche / Arnis Quest
Work made for "The current is Coming Towards Us" as part of the Arnis Residency, curated by Ramos Lübbert, Arnis, Germany.
Fernseh: die Suche (Arnis Quest)
This work continued the quest theme, setting instructions for the residency in Germany. Arnis is where the Angles came from so the work looked to sources such as the Sutton Hoo ship burial and Beowulf.
The boat was made from found wood and textiles, painted with bitumen and filled with reed bundles. Two bitumen painted willow runic "oars" lay on top of the reeds, representing the "guiding star" and the "cup of plenty". The boat was positioned on canvas painted with boiled rose-hips, floating on a raft on the Schlei..
A net was made from found string, with 20 hours of labour in the knotting - the same time that the Angles spent travelling nautical knots to England.
